Vintage Bone Handle Pocket Knife

Specializes in Old Vintage Fossilized Mammoth Bone and Mammoth Ivory Handled Knives

B Merry Studio specializes in old vintage fossilized Mammoth bone, and Mammoth Ivory handled knives. The Woolly Mammoth was heavy-coated (Mammuthus primigenius) formerly inhabiting the colder parts of the northern hemisphere, roaming the earth for hundreds of thousands of years. Their bones have been found on almost every continent. The Woolly Mammoth has been extinct for over 10,000 years, so we are grateful to share and utilize these incredibly preserved organic materials. A Fossil is a remnant, impression, or trace of an organism of past geologic ages that has been preserved in the earth’s crust. Get your hands on our vintage bone handle knife. It’s exquisite as well as exclusive.

Beautiful Colors of Green and Blue from Vivianite

During the fossilizing process, bone and ivory can turn into beautiful colors of green and blue from vivianite. Vivianite is a hydrated iron phosphate mineral found in several geological environments. Small amounts of manganese Mn2+, magnesium Mg and calcium Ca substitute for iron Fe2+ in the structure. Pure vivianite is colorless, but the mineral oxidizes very easily, changing the color, and it is usually found as deep blue to deep bluish-green prismatic to flattened crystals. Vivianite crystals are often found inside fossil shells, such as those of bivalves and gastropods, or attached to fossil bone. Therefore, each piece of fossilized bone and ivory we carve is unique and one of a kind, just as unique as the animal that grew them, like fingerprints. The bone handles for knives are artistic, exclusive, and eye-catching. You will know when you own one of our vintage bone handle knives.
